Our Local Bounty - 2015

Our Local Bounty "in the bag"

The most common question asked of us is, "What comes in a bag?"

The variety and amount of produce in the bag will vary each week based on seasonal timing, what is producing well, and what we have been requested to grow. Our goal is to supply six to ten items each week. Our Local Bounty offers only a limited number of each membership, so we will do our best to customize your bag to meet your needs. But remember, in the end, it is the actual law of the harvest that determines the quantity and quality of your delivery.

The following would be a sample winter bag:

1 pint of Strawberries
1 pint of Large Red Cherry Tomatoes
1 head of Romaine Lettuce
1 bunch of Leaf Lettuce
1 Bell Pepper
1 Cucumber
½ pound Green Beans
1 bunch Spinach

Other items that may be added, exchanged, or adjusted seasonally: tomatoes, peas, basil, mushrooms, carrots, cilantro, apples, mint, chives, cantaloupe, green onions, apricots, shallots, squash, potatoes, watermelon, corn, or beets. We will also watch for and offer group buys on seasonal apricots, peaches, tomatoes, raspberries, blackberries, mushrooms, corn, and other items for canning from local growers.

What we grow is based on two key factors:

1. What we 'can' grow seasonally. More quantity and variety will always be available in the summer and fall, when we are not dependent entirely upon the greenhouse.

2. What you ask us to grow. With our current facilities we will offer no more than 75 memberships, and what we grow will be based on what you ask for.

As an Our Local Bounty member, you share in both the benefits and the risks of being part of a small local farm. The risks include losing a vegetable crop due to bad weather conditions, insects, or disease. As a result of these benefits and risks, you will receive larger selections and quantities in good weeks and fewer in challenging weeks. While we will make every effort to exceed your expectations; in the end, should crop failures occur, there will be no refunds.

By entering into this CSA relationship you keep local farmers producing here in our community, utilizing all-natural growing methods, which returns directly to you as healthier foods. You substantially reduce the fossil-fuels used and carbon output associated with transporting food an average of 1,500 miles from the farmer's fields to your table. You are also eliminating the additional packaging necessary for shipping and the 50% loss of produce that occurs during industrial harvesting, transportation, and the retail display for marketing. CSA works for you, local agriculture, and the environment!
